Dr. I Gusti Nyoman Darmaputra, a dermatologist, emphasizes the potential hazards associated with using antiseptics on underarms. He highlights several key concerns:

Skin Irritation: Antiseptics applied to sensitive areas like the armpits can cause irritation. "Prolonged use can lead to redness, itching, or even a burning sensation," explains Dr. Darma. If not properly cleaned after use, this irritation can worsen.

Contact Dermatitis: Consistent application of antiseptics can trigger contact dermatitis, an allergic reaction on the skin. Symptoms include rashes, swelling, and small blisters caused by exposure to the chemicals in the antiseptics.

"A balanced population of good bacteria on the skin is essential for healthy skin. Frequent use can kill these beneficial bacteria, making the skin more susceptible to infections," explains Dr. Darma. This can lead to more serious bacterial or fungal infections.
Risks for Sensitive Skin: Individuals with sensitive skin are at a higher risk from this trend. "Those with sensitive skin are more prone to severe irritation or allergic reactions," says Dr. Darma. Therefore, it's strongly advised to consult a doctor before trying this viral trend.
